New to yeah write this week? Welcome!

There were six newbies on the challenge grid this week, pushing us over 20 entries. Thank you so much for diving right into the festivities by reading and voting and leaving comments. If you had a great time (and we know you did), please come back next week with an even better challenge grid entry. We can’t wait to read it!

Now on to this week’s writing and community spirit awards:

 Crowd favorite

“Not Now, but Then” by Janice Wilberg at Red’s Wrap

Our crowd favorite is “Not Now, but Then” by yeah write virgin  Janice Wilberg at Red’s Wrap. The dense layers in her perfectly crafted opener are but a tease for the depth of her tale about a past tense love story that persisted in a singular way. Janice takes her readers on a decades-long ride with an old friend as an intermittent presence, yet constant thought.

The writing is simple and honest as the author reveals here and there details both broad and infinitesimal. The emotional tour ends in four words of sorrowful acceptance with the reader reluctantly stepping away to give Janice a moment alone.

Congratulations, Janice! Pick up your well-deserved crowd favorite badge in the sidebar.

Congratulations also to Natalie and Erica, who round out our top row three! Y’all earned yourselves some top row badges.

edkiwi157The kiwi of the week is…

“Jobs of Last Resort” by Vanessa at From Here to There

In the weeks there is no jury prize competition (meaning the grid is under 30 posts), we award the editor’s choice kiwi. His name is Kevin. He’s hanging out over there in the sidebar, looking ready to bust out in a lively fandango. This week, contributing editor Michelle L chose as the winner of our adorable flightless bird Vanessa of From Here to There for her post “Jobs of Last Resort.”

Vanessa’s submission actually received a love letter while in our moderation queue. She accepted the constructive feedback from the editors, redrafted the post, then resubmitted the rewrite. It was the editors’ consensus that the rewrite greatly improved the piece, and it was based on that extra effort Michelle is awarding the kiwi, which stands for “Kevin’s impressed with it.”

Thanks, Vanessa, for sticking with it and for bringing us your best stuff. Your kiwi badge (and dance partner) awaits you in the sidebar.

combob157Did Comment Bob fall in love with you?

Bob loves the yeah write community spirit, and cheers on anyone who shows it to each post published on the challenge grid. See him over there in the sidebar waving his pompoms? Two bloggers earned a Bob this week for commenting on the posts on the grid, sharing posts on social media, responding thoughtfully to comments on her own post and/or campaigning fairly for their favorites. Luanne at Writer Site and Pam H at Pamo’s World were model yeah writers, each winning a Bob of her own. Pick up your badges in the sidebar, and thanks for supporting your fellow bloggers.

moonshineWeekend moonshine grid opens today at 6 p.m. eastern time

It’s the weekend, and Natalie D is setting up her moonshine grid and bathtub gin just for you. The moonshine grid is the flip side of our weekly challenges: a no-stress link-up where we accept anything except commercial or sponsored posts. You can catch up with Natalie starting at 6 p.m. eastern time today. Closing time is midnight on Monday.

Win-win

The thumbnails are now sorted in the grid from most votes to the least. In the case of a tie, the thumbnails are additionally sorted by page views.

Do not be discouraged if your blog has landed near the bottom of the grid; especially if it was a tight race. The fun lies in getting better exposure for your blog and, in the spirit of competition, an incentive to improve your writing and blogging skills. It’s a win-win for everybody involved.

Thanks again, everybody, for submitting, for reading, and for accepting the weekly writing challenge. And for making yeah write the most welcoming spot on the Interwebs for writers who blog and bloggers who write.

Birthday giveaway winners announced on Sunday!

No, we will not shut up about our birthday. Have we mentioned yeah write just turned three? The winners of the birthday giveaway will be announced in the yeah write #158 weekly writing challenge Sunday kickoff post. You won’t want to miss this, so be sure you’ve subscribed to our email list to get notice when prompts are posted, grids open, and voting begins. It’s easy to do! Just sign up right here.

Take a moment…

Before you go? Congratulate this week’s winners in the comments. Let your favorites know you campaigned and voted for them. Did it snow at your house this week in the middle of April? Let us know that, too.

Yeah write #158 opens with the kickoff post on Sunday, the gargleblaster on Monday, and the challenge grid and speakeasy fiction jam on Tuesday. All of it will be family-free, so bring your best stuff that doesn’t talk about anyone related to you by blood, marriage or illegal kidnapping. See you next week.
