Get your badge while the gettin’s good

Badges are up for the yeah write #96 challenge grid which means today is the earliest your yeah write #96 weekly writing challenge grid posts can be dated.

Challenge v. Speakeasy

The grids open Tuesday, and we can hardly wait to read what you’ve cooked up as your very best personal essays and traditional blog anecdotes this week. Submit your fiction and poetry over at the speakeasy, where your first line is written for you. Even if you don’t submit, pop over to there for a fantastic collection of creative writing. See below for details about the loose and easy moonshine grid for the weekend. It’s loose, not sloppy.

Open submissions

Open submissions continue on a permanent basis at yeah write. There is no longer a moderation queue, but all submission guidelines and FAQ still apply. This is especially true of self-promotional posts. Or even self-promotional pleas at the beginning/end/hidden in the middle of your posts. We understand the glamour of winning a Top 25 contest – it’s almost as exciting as winning a badge from yeah write. Woohoo! But please don’t plug yourself – or anyone else, for that matter – on your posts. Thanks very much!

As you start your winning submission

Are you jotting down little moments and anecdotes during your week? Are there times that you think, “Ha! That would make a great blog post!” and you mean it sincerely, not ironically? Only about one of those ideas – assuming you have about 50 during the week – are really worth developing into a fully-developed story. I know, harsh, right? But it’s true. Other things are better as real life chats, Tweets, or even Facebook posts. Or Instagrams! We love those crazy filters. Choose wisely, as Indiana Jones once did. It’s not always the story that shines most brightly that’s worth polishing. Whatever you do choose to develop, make sure it has a marvelously written introduction, a clearly defined story line, and shows off a clear so what? by the end. Writing well about everyday life is the challenge of the challenge grid.

Weekend moonshine grid

You know that all you have in you is a funny anecdote about how you stepped in dog crap (or you hope it was dog crap) on the way to work? Or maybe you just want to show off a fun photo or share what you thought about the last book or movie you read. Think of the moonshine grid as a casual hangout – no pressure. The moonshine grid starts at 6 p.m. eastern time on Fridays and closes by 12:01 a.m. on Mondays. Find some new-to-you-blogs and write without the anxiety of being judged, evaluated and voted on by the yeah write editors. Unlimited space, unlimited joy. Still no promotional or commercial posts.

This weekend’s grid is still open. We’re waiting for you!
