It’s more satisfying in a large group

We didn’t make it to thirty entries on the challenge grid last week – almost, but not quite. It’s disappointing, but we understand. Work, kids, blogging conferences…they all want your time. And while yeah write is a jealous mistress, forgiveness flows fast and free here. So…let’s do it this week! Remember, the jury prize won’t open unless we hit at least 30 entries on the challenge grid. Tell your friends (and maybe your favorite frenemies) that we’re here.

As extra incentive, there will be a literary treat for whoever takes jury prize this week. We have a generous offer from Bill Dameron, last week’s crowd favorite. He has generously offered a copy of the Saranac Review, which is carrying one of his essays. It’s his first printed piece, and we couldn’t be more proud! The eligibility requirements are the same as always: you must be a yeah write subscriber and we must reach at least 30 on the challenge grid.

Get going and grab the badge for your challenge grid entry

challenge129Today is the earliest your yeah write #129 weekly writing challenge grid post can be dated. Any first-timers who feel insecure or queasy should email us if they run into trouble. At yeah write, we’re here for you!

Fiction and poetry are for the speakeasy

The grid opens Tuesday, and it’s just the place for your personal stories and non-fiction anecdotes. For those wanting more fantastical fiction or poetry in their lives, the speakeasy will make sure we all have a delicious dose of fiction and poetry. Visit us over at the speakeasy to park your post with other poetry and fiction offerings.

There’s a limit of 500 words plus 100 words grace

The challenge grid limits a post to 500 words plus 100 words grace. Keep it trim and snip away at the detritus that may distract from your so what. Keeping it tight encourages readers to read your entire post then vote for it on Thursday. We don’t want to limit your creativity; we just know you can keep it together and hold your readers’ attention with less, rather than more. You’ve got six days of the week to write as long as you like. Give us this one day.

The yeah write way

As always, it is open submissions at the challenge grid, but editors will be monitoring posts for adherence to the yeah write guidelines. Not sure about your post? Take a look here. Remember that sponsored or fictional pieces are always no-nos. If yours is returned to you this week, it’s not a commentary on your writing, but a commitment to the yeah write guidelines. For more information or a refresher, visit how yeah write works. Grab our attention with sympathetic characters and strong endings. You know, your best stuff.
